Updated Mission Statement

A Place for Hope has officially adopted an updated mission statement that more clearly reflects the organization’s work serving individuals and families across the community through mental health support, food access, and meaningful opportunities to serve.

The updated mission statement is:

A Place For Hope provides ability, dignity, and connection through mental health support, food access, and opportunities to serve others.

The new language was formally adopted by the board and is designed to better explain the full scope of A Place For Hope’s work. During recent planning conversations, leadership noted the importance of making sure the public understands that A Place For Hope is not only a food shelf, and not only a mental health support organization, but a place where both basic needs and human connection are addressed together.

“This mission statement gives us a clearer way to tell our story,” said Darrell Vasvick, Executive Director of A Place For Hope. “Every day, we see how mental health, food insecurity, dignity, and connection are tied together. When someone walks through our doors, they are not just looking for one service. They are looking for hope, support, and a place where they are treated like they matter.”

The updated mission also provides A Place For Hope with three clear pillars for future storytelling and community engagement: mental health support, food access, and opportunities to serve others. These pillars will help guide communications, donor updates, volunteer recruitment, and public awareness efforts.

The timing of this update comes as A Place For Hope continues to see growing needs in the community. Food costs remain high, shelves are often stretched thin, and the organization has been spending an estimated $4,000 to $5,000 per month purchasing food to help fill gaps when donated supplies are not enough.

“This is not a rebrand for the sake of a rebrand,” Vasvick said. “This is about clarity. We want our community to understand what we do, why it matters, and how they can help. Whether someone gives financially, donates food, volunteers, or simply shares our story, they are helping create a place where people can find dignity and hope.”

A Place For Hope is also currently working to expand its capacity, including hiring additional support for the food shelf and strengthening its ability to connect with donors, volunteers, board prospects, and community partners.

Community members can support A Place For Hope by donating funds, contributing needed food items, volunteering, or helping spread the word about the organization’s updated mission.
